FMM Concludes Strategic Mission to Xinjiang, Bolstering Regional Economic Engagement

The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) coordinated and executed a strategic mission to Xinjiang, China, from May 18-22, 2025. A central highlight of this impactful visit was the China (Xinjiang)-ASEAN Economic and Trade Exchange Conference, an important forum co-hosted by the China Chamber of International Commerce and the East Asia Business Council (EABC).

During this pivotal conference, FMM President Tan Sri Dato' Soh Thian Lai delivered a significant guest speech. Representing Tan Sri Azman Hashim, the 2025 Chair of the East Asia Business Council (EABC), Tan Sri Dato' Soh articulated critical areas for enhanced cooperation across East Asia, framed within the context of the modern Silk Road initiative. The conference also featured significant keynote addresses from distinguished figures, including Mr. Wang Gang, Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and Mr. Sun Xiao, Secretary General of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC).

Beyond the conference, delegates gained valuable insights through arranged visits to local factories, offering practical exposure to the region's business culture and operational dynamics. The mission also facilitated a high-level engagement on May 20, where Ma Xingrui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region, met with attending Chinese and foreign guests from the conference and the 63rd Council Meeting of the East Asia Business Council in Urumqi.
