FMM In The News: THE MALAYSIAN RESERVE, January 22, 2024 - Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has raised concerns over Fomema Sdn Bhd’s recent increase in the frequency and rates for medical examinations of foreign workers, estimating an annual cost of about RM124.4 million for manufacturers.
FMM questions the need for additional tests and the shift to annual check-ups, urging the government to implement a streamlined online system for foreign worker management.
FMM criticises Fomema for not consulting stakeholders before implementing the changes and calls for a suspension of the new medical examination structure, immediate stakeholder engagement, and a review of the necessity of third-party service providers.
The revamped system, effective Dec 16, 2023, includes additional tests and increased examination fees for both male and female workers, with each refund request incurring a charge of RM27.
