FMM in favour of stricter SOP

President Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai said FMM welcomed the government’s announcement to help fill up the existing vacancies with new foreign workers from the source country. “(However), we view the conditions imposed on this relaxation as very restrictive and would tremendously tax employers financially..."

FMM In the News: THE STAR, PETALING JAYA, Friday, January 8, 2021 - There are worries that a second full lockdown due to Covid-19 can severely weaken businesses and the nation’s economy within months, says Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) president Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai.

“Based on feedback from members, a lockdown of four weeks and more will render business sustainability down to between one and three months only, ” he said.

With several major states being the hub and heart of the nation’s economy, he noted that there were fears that a total lockdown would affect the business sector and economy.

FMM, he said, supported targeted conditional movement control order with stricter localised standard operating procedure and restrictions as a means to curb the spread of the virus.
