DECLARATION OF BILL OF LADING NUMBER IN MANIFEST (SB/11/2021)

This is to inform youin a letter dated 1st April 2021 to FMM & shipping-relatedassociations to be published to all members, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department(RMCA) has directed for the following information on the Bill of Lading (BL) tobe declared as follows:

  • The BL number which appears in the BL hardcopyshould be fully declared in SistemMaklumat Kastam (SMK) when sending the manifest information for import,export, or transshipment.
  • However, Sistem Maklumat Kastam (SMK) only allows 15 characters from the BL number. If the BL number exceedsthe limit, please use 15 characters startingfrom the end. For example:

Original BL number

EFGHIJ12345678910

(17 characters)

Declared BL number

GHIJ12345678910

(15 characters)

  • The above new directive is in accordancewith the requirements of Sections 52(1), 52 (2), and 52 (3) of The Customs Act 1967. RMCA highlighted that failureto comply with the above requirements is an offense under Section 52(4) of The Customs Act 1967 and is liable to legalaction.
