FMM President: Build More RM100 Million Companies, Not More Lifelong SMEs
October 8, 2026 (M Resort, Kuala Lumpur): At the FMM SMI Conference 2026, FMM President Jacob Lee called for a bold growth agenda to help Malaysian businesses scale beyond the SME stage into stronger SMIs, mid-tier companies and future national champions.
FMM reiterated its proposal to revise the manufacturing SME threshold to RM100 million annual sales turnover and 300 employees, ensuring growing companies continue to receive the support needed to expand, innovate and create quality jobs.
The conference was officiated by YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP), while YBhg Dato' Teng Chang Khim, Chairman of SME Corp. Malaysia, delivered a plenary session on shaping the future of Malaysia's SMEs.
Bringing together over 300 business leaders, policymakers and industry stakeholders, the conference focused on practical strategies across Frameworks, Talent, Capital and Technology to accelerate business growth and competitiveness.
