FMM Press Statement: Industry Fully Supports the National Anti-Corruption Plan

Kuala Lumpur, January 31, 2019 – The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) lauds the recent launch of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) by the Honourable Prime Minister, giving further assurance of the strong political will and commitment by the Government to eradicate corruption and improve the overall governance and integrity of the country.

The NACP’s three main missions to uphold the rule of law, to improve government efficiency, transparency and accountability based on good governance and to create a clean business environment are spot-on. There is a strong correlation between economic growth and corruption. Integrity fosters a credible, reliable and equitable environment.

FMM advocates strong participation of the private sector in supporting the Government’s efforts in implementing the NACP initiatives. Combating corruption is the joint responsibility of the public and private sectors in their engagements with each other. Driven by this conviction, FMM had organised a nationwide mass signing campaign by its members of the MACC’s Corruption Free Pledge to kick-off its 50th Anniversary Year celebrations on July 2, 2018.

FMM also welcomes the improvement to the foreign workers centralised management system by streamlining and integrating existing online systems as part of the 22 NACP prioritised initiatives. FMM has been supporting computerisation and online processes which lead to greater efficiency, consistency and transparency in government decision making by eliminating human discretion, reducing interaction and abuses of power and removing rent seeking activities, all of which give rise to corruption and an increase in the cost of doing business.

Companies and industry associations can make valuable contributions towards creating a corrupt free environment. FMM will continue its efforts to equip members with the latest updates and tools to ensure that adequate actions are taken to prevent corruption in their operations such as implementing international standards on anti-bribery i.e. ISO 37001: Anti-Bribery Management System which is also in line with FMM’s advocacy for transparency, integrity and no corruption.
