FMM PRESS STATEMENT: Industry Urged to Expedite Covid-19 Immunisation Registration Towards Business Recovery and Rejuvenation of the Economy

Kuala Lumpur, April 6, 2021 – The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) applauds the recent announcement by YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and head of the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) on the decision of the Government to prioritise frontline workers in crucial economic sectors including manufacturing in the Second Phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Indeed, the industry is a critical economic frontliner towards quicker economic recovery and rejuvenation. In this regard, FMM has continued to remind and appeal to members of the industry to expedite their registration for vaccination including getting all local and foreign employees to register early. Industries that have reached 80% or more employees who have already registered for the vaccination have also been encouraged to submit the list of registered employees to their respective associations to be forwarded to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to be registered as economic frontliners.

It is imperative for the industry to give their full support and commitment towards ensuring the effectiveness of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in order to achieve the targeted goal to attain herd immunity within the community in order to break the chain of transmission of the Covid-19 infections and ultimately end the Covid-19 pandemic. It is the collective responsibility and concerted efforts of all which would be vital in realising the full benefits of this programme for the wellbeing of all and the economy as a whole.

At the same time, the industry hopes that the vaccination process for the economic frontliners could be arranged in a manner that it could be done factory by factory or in batches of employees or even by private clinics or hospitals to speed up the vaccination process and reduce as far as possible any operational disruption especially on the production floor.
