Declaration of Public Holiday onOctober 22, 2018 in the State of Kedah in Conjunction with the Coronation ofthe 29th KDYMM Tuanku Sultan of Kedah

 

The Kedah State Government has declaredOctober 22, 2018 as a public holiday [CUTI PERISTIWA] inconjunction with the Coronation of the 29th Sultan of Kedah, KEBAWAH DULI YANG MAHA MULIA SULTAN SALLEHUDDIN IBNIALMARHUM SULTAN BADLISHAH.

The said public holiday is declared under Section 9 of the Holidays Act 1951, NOT under Section 8, and therefore member companies are NOT legally obliged to observe October 22, 2018 as a paid holiday EXCEPT in the following conditions:

  1. Member companies in Kedah with collective agreement or terms and conditions of employment which PROVIDE for paid holiday on ALL Public Holidays [Federal & State], MUST observe October22, 2018 as a paid public holiday.

However, companies that need to run their operations on October 22, 2018 may, with the agreement of the employees, SUBSTITUTE it with any other day as a paid public holiday.

  1. In the event that member companies decide to substitute October 22, 2018 with any other day as a paid public holiday, the following applies:
  1. The date so substituted must NOT be later than December 31, 2018;
  1. Employees working on October 22, 2018 will be PAID normal days wages;
  1. In the event that the employee is required to work on the day substituted, the employee shall be PAID public holiday wages.
