Head Office, KL

FMM Leadership, led by President Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok, paid a courtesy call on YB Datuk Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, at MOSTI, Putrajaya on February 25, 2026. The FMM delegation comprised members of its Presidential Committee namely Dato’ Andrew Goh Boon Kim (Deputy President), Datuk Noraini Soltan, Dato’ J Palaniappan, Ir Ter Leong Leng and Dato’ Gan Tack Kong (Vice-Presidents).

FMM reaffirmed its long-standing and constructive partnership with MOSTI in advancing industry-led innovation, research and development (R&D), productivity and technology adoption across the manufacturing ecosystem. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening applied and industry-driven R&D, deepening industry–academia collaboration, and accelerating Malaysia’s transition towards higher value-added, technology-intensive manufacturing in line with NIMP 2030 and RMK-13.

Key areas discussed included strengthening STEM and TVET as critical drivers of Malaysia’s competitiveness, particularly through early exposure and stronger talent pipelines to support an innovation-driven and high-income economy. FMM also emphasised the need to enhance industry-driven RDI capabilities, especially among SMEs and local suppliers, through more accessible incentives, advisory support, collaborative R&D platforms and structured partnerships with universities and research institutions.

In addition, FMM highlighted the importance of building resilient domestic supply chains through technology adoption, localisation and innovation, as well as accelerating SME digitalisation, smart manufacturing and AI adoption. The Federation proposed a coordinated national advisory framework, simplified incentives, common-user facilities and stronger outreach to support SMEs in their digital and technological transformation
