FMM President Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai at a press conference held on September 11, 2023 released the results of the recently concluded FMM Business Conditions Survey 1H2023 which drew a response from 351 members. The 23rd edition of the FMM Business Conditions Survey revealed that the Malaysian manufacturing sector had slowed down further in 1H2023.  All the indicators in the survey declined from the previous survey. Concurrently, except cost of production and employment, they also registered readings below the 100-point optimism threshold, an indication that overall business conditions in 1H2023 had been subdued. Going forward, the sector is pragmatically on cautious mode, likely in anticipation of the persistently weak external conditions and clearer domestic economic policies and directions from the government to help spur higher investments and Malaysia’s growth momentum.

Joining FMM President as the press conference were Vice Presidents Dato’ Goh Boon Kim and Dato’ Dr Ir Andy Seo together with FMM Council Member and Chairman of FMM Strategic Policies and Research Committee Tan Sri Saw Choo Boon, FMM CEO Datuk Dr Yeoh Oon Tean and FMM Senior Researcher Ms Elayne Yee.
