BELT & ROAD INITIATIVE (BRI)
In 2013, Chinese premier Xi Jinping announced a pair of new development and trade initiatives for China and the surrounding region: the “Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “Twenty-First- Century Maritime Silk Road,” together known as “Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)”. From the Chinese perspective, the official ideology behind BRI is peaceful development - to sponsor infrastructure investments and facilitate economic development, promoting cooperation and minimising conflict (adapted from Embong, Evers, & Ramli, 2017).
China’s BRI economic development and cooperation initiative promises unprecedented massive investment and trade opportunities for Malaysia and 64 other nations across three continents.
